Scholars at Risk Fellowship Program 2025

This program requires applicants to submit a detailed research plan that focuses on significant questions related to academic freedom and associated values. In addition to conducting rigorous research, participants will be encouraged to disseminate their findings in various formats such as journal articles, podcasts, webinars, or conference presentations, thereby reaching a broad audience.

Process of Applying

Applicants must follow the outlined process to apply for the Scholars at Risk Fellowship:

  2. All application materials must be combined into a single PDF file, named as "LAST NAME – Project Title".
  3. The PDF file must contain a 500-1000 word abstract, a research plan with a timeline, and a CV with the contact information of two references.
  4. Applicants must also complete a short-answer form in the online application, responding to questions about their project objectives, dissemination plans, and target audience.

Required Documents

In order to be considered for the fellowship, the following documents are required to be submitted as part of the application:

  • Abstract: A 500-1000 word abstract summarizing your research, including the research question(s), methodology, and its connection to academic freedom. The abstract must also explain how your findings will contribute to the understanding of academic freedom and its protection.
  • Research Plan and Timeline: A detailed plan outlining your research process and how you will complete it over the course of the 10-month fellowship (December 2024 – September 2025).
  • CV: Your curriculum vitae, which includes the contact information of two professional references who can speak to your qualifications for the fellowship. If you have not yet completed your final degree, include your expected date of completion.

Short Answer Form

In addition to the required documents, applicants are required to complete a short-answer form in the online application. This form includes the following questions:

  • What are the specific objectives of your research and the end product?
  • In what format(s) will your research findings be disseminated (e.g., journal article, webinar, podcast, conference presentation)?
  • What is your strategy for disseminating the final product of your project?
  • Who is the target audience for your findings?
  • How will you measure the success of your project?
